“Everyone is going somewhere. Almost no one knows where.”
Over one scorching day in Cairo, a weary microbus driver works the length of Line Three — from the chaos of Ramses Square to the edge of Imbaba — as a rotating cast of passengers carry their small crises in and out of his eighteen-seat world. A university student rehearsing a confession, an old man returning to a neighborhood that no longer exists, a young mother counting coins for a fare she can't quite cover. By nightfall the driver must decide whether the route he has driven for twenty years is still the road he wants.

Mansour turns a microbus into the whole of modern Egypt. The heat, the noise, the tenderness between strangers — it's all here. Sherif Mansour gives the performance of his career with almost no dialogue.
A humane, observant drama

Structurally it's a day-in-the-life ensemble, and it earns every minute. The student's storyline gutted me. Loses a little focus in the final act but recovers for a beautiful ending.
Slow but sincere

Beautifully shot and acted, though the pacing tests your patience in the middle. If you grew up taking the microbus, every detail will ring true. Worth it for the last fifteen minutes.
The Egyptian film of the year

Premiered at El Gouna and deserved every prize it got. The script trusts silence. The sound design — the rattle of the door, the conductor's call — is its own kind of music.
Admirable, not gripping

I respect what it's doing more than I enjoyed sitting through it. The vignette structure means some passengers land and some don't. Still, a confident piece of filmmaking.
