“Find your bearings. Lose them. Find new ones.”
A nine-year-old girl living on a tiny coastal island befriends two impossible companions: a brass-buttoned fox who claims to be a retired compass and a quiet sky-blue whale who introduces herself only as Cloud. When the lighthouse stops working and the island's birds begin flying the wrong way home, the three set off across the strait to find out what has gone wrong with the world's directions.

User Reviews
5 reviewsA gentle, beautiful film
by animation_devotee
Pittman's debut feature trusts its audience — including the youngest viewers — with quiet pacing and emotional patience. The Compass-and-Cloud dynamic is wonderfully voice-acted. Wept twice. Will rewatch.
Lovely without being saccharine
by family_movie_night
Our seven-year-old asked to watch it again immediately. Our eleven-year-old quietly cried in the third act. The grown-ups thought about their own parents the whole way home.
A small studio's huge swing
by modern_animation_critic
Crescent-Pier Animation made this on a fraction of a major studio's budget and it shows in the best possible way — every frame is hand-considered. The whale design alone is iconic.
Charming but slight
by cynical_dad
Genuinely sweet and beautifully made. Whether it will mean anything to anyone after the credits, I'm less sure. Nice afternoon, won't think about it next week.
Marcus Polo is wonderful
by voice_actor_fan
His Compass the Fox is half-stage-magician, half-tired-grandfather, fully alive. Tina Rooke's whale speaks maybe thirty words across the whole film and every one matters.
